Lentil Wraps
Since childhood, I have never been a big fan of lentils. While I am not a picky eater, the earthy flavor, down to the texture of the skin on a lentil have never been my cup of tea. While I have been quite closed-minded to lentils up to this point, it recently occurred to me that I’ve really only ever had lentils prepared one way: boiled. Whether in a soup, or on their own as a side dish, boiled lentils taste vastly different than dried lentils, lentil flour, or using any other method of preparation. This, by the way, is true of most foods.
Once I came to this realization, I decided it was time to give lentils another shot, but this time, using a bit more creativity. Over years of trial-and-error, I’ve come to realize that a grain-free diet is best for controlling my Crohn’s Disease. Because of this, I’ve spent time finding replacements for many typically grain-based foods such as noodles, breads, and desserts. One food I have found to be particularly challenging to replicate, however, was a soft and pliable wrap! This was until I experimented with lentil wraps.
Lentil wraps are not only soft and pliable (when warm), but they also offer a neutral yet bread-like flavor that I just can’t get enough of! With only two easy ingredients, they’re perfect for those who are grain-free, plant-based, or who simply want to embrace a more nutritious diet.
Only Two Ingredients
Like mentioned above, these Lentil Wraps require only two, easy ingredients! They truly can be whipped up in a breeze, and are easy to prep in bulk. So what exactly are these two simple ingredients?:
#1: Lentils: Whether you choose to use whole lentils, or pre-made lentil flour, I suggest using red lentils for a mild flavor, and the perfect texture.
#2: Water: While seemingly a secondary ingredient, there is actually twice the amount of water than there are lentils in this recipe!
That’s it! Two, easy peasy ingredients. A third optional ingredient is salt, and can be added to taste if preferred.
Two Ways to Make Lentil Wraps
While this Lentil Wrap Recipe requires only two ingredients, there are actually two ways to make my Lentil Wraps as well! Both are simple and easy, requiring only a few minutes of hands-on time. The first method, however, is the simplest, and is great if you don’t mind purchasing a specialty food item to avoid additional steps.
#1: Lentil Wraps with Lentil Flour
The first option for making this recipe is by using a pre-made red lentil flour. I love the one from Wellbee’s, although there is one or two more companies out there that I have seen providing this type of product. Wellbee’s is presoaked to improve digestion, making it easier for people with sensitive stomachs to enjoy lentils with a more minimal chance of gas or digestive upset. Because of this, they are my brand of choice!
Using lentil flour instead of whole lentils simply takes out the need to soak and blend. Other than that, the recipe, and ratios stay the same (as seen in the recipe card below)!
#2: Lentil Wraps with Whole Lentils
Lentil flour can be pricey, as you are definitely paying for convenience. Whole lentils, on the-other-hand, are rather cost effective! As we covered earlier, the only difference to starting your recipe with whole lentils is that you will need to soak and blend them yourself. Still easy and simple, but will add on about 5 minutes of hands-on time, plus 8 hours of soaking. No extra cook time required.
Ways to Use Lentil Wraps
Lentil Wraps can basically be used in any way you would use your typical tortilla wrap. The ideas, however, do not stop there! Due to their neutral flavor, these can be used in a variety of ways with a little thinking outside of the box. Here are some ideas…
Soft Flatbread: By using just a bit less water (1/4 cup or so), you can thicken these Lentil Wraps up into a flatbread texture! Simply pan fry (shape as preferred), top with ingredients, then bake in the oven. A Spinach Artichoke Flatbread (minus the cheese) is always one of my go-to’s.
Use Like Pita: Lentil wraps are not the same texture as pita bread, but they do make a great grain-free substitute! Perfect for scooping up stews and soups or dipping in tahini spreads or hummus, Lentil Wraps are super versatile.
Soft Shell Tacos: This Recipe for Lentil Wraps can easily stand in for any flour tortilla for taco night! We love making Street Tacos, but substituting with Lentil Wraps!
Healthy Eating Includes Non-Toxic Cookware
While the actual ingredients you use is a ginormous part of clean eating, your cookware is also included in this! If you’re using cookware with a non-stick coating, chances these chemicals are contaminating your food. This in turn, means you are ingesting these chemicals on a regular basis.
Because of the vast amount of toxins found in most cookware, we trust Xtrema for nearly all of our cooking and baking supplies. With 100% ceramic cook and bakeware, plus a huge selections of products, Xtrema has been our go-to for years now.
My favorite skillet for stovetop cooking is their Signature Skillet. I love the 11 inch for prepping large batches of whatever I’m cooking.
All-in-all, lentils are a great source of plant-based protein, filled with nutrients, and can be delicious in the right type of recipe! Ready to get into the details? Here’s how to make it!

- Add contents (without draining) to a high-speed blender. Blend until smooth.
- Heat a skillet with avocado oil on low/medium heat.

Notes
*I always err on the side of less time when making these wraps, as overcooking will create a crisp, and stiff wrap.
