Chocolate Protein Balls – little bit sized snacks loaded with peanut butter, chocolate, oats, and lots of protein for a quick snack you can just grab and go!
Homemade snacks are a must in our house. Things like Peanut Butter Protein Balls or Peanut Butter Protein Bars are so nice to have in the fridge to just grab and go when you need just a little something, post workout snack, or are just hungry!
Chocolate Protein Balls
These little protein balls use just a handful of ingredients that you mix together and then form into balls. There is no cooking or baking involved. You can swap out some of the ingredients to fit your tastes or add more/different nutrition. So they are super customizable and ready in less than 10 minutes!
What You’ll Need
- Creamy Peanut Butter – I like creamy the best, but you really could use crunchy if you wanted a little more texture in your protein balls
- Honey – any liquid sweetener will work (agave, honey, maple syrup etc.)
- Old Fashioned Oats – quick cooking work, the texture of the balls just change a little
- Chocolate Protein Powder – use whatever type you like!
- Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
- Ground Flax Meal or Hemp Hearts
- Mini Chocolate Chips
How To Make Chocolate Protein Balls

- In a large bowl combine all of the ingredients and mix until well blended and it starts to stick together.
- Form about 30 equal portions and roll into balls. Place them all on a baking sheet and put in the fridge for about an hour or until they are set and firm.
- Once the protein balls are firm, place them into an airtight container and store in the fridge or freezer.
How Long To Chocolate Protein Balls Last?
You can store the balls in an airtight container in the fridge for about 10 days. Or you can FREEZE them! They will last in the freezer for about 3 months. Just take out what you want and let them thaw on the counter for about an hour before eating.
Protein Bite Variations
This is where you can get creative and make them your own!
- This recipe uses ground flax meal, you can add 1-2 Tablespoons of chia seeds or hemp seeds in addition to the flax meal or instead of if you wanted to change up the nutrition.
- Adding 1 to 2 scoop of collage will up the protein and give you different nutrients in these little snack bites.
- Want to skip the chocolate chips? No problem! Mix in chopped nuts or dried fruit instead. Or mix up the flavor of the chip if you want.
- If you have peanut allergies, you can use any other nut butter, sun butter or wow butter to make them allergy friendly. You could even use Nutella or Cookie Butter/Biscoff Spread if you wanted more of a dessert treat.

- 3/4 cup creamy peanut butter
- 1/3 cup honey
- 2 scoops chocolate protein powder
- 3 Tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup hemp hearts or flax meal
- 1/3 cup mini chocolate chips
Instructions
- In a large bowl combine all of the ingredients and mix until well blended and it starts to stick together.
- Form about 30 equal portions and roll into balls.
